Steve ...
Thanks for the field report. I'm zeroing in on the World Traveller. Their USA importer is in Phila. so it's no surprise that they showed in NJ. Did you see anything that could compare? Surley LHT or CoMotion Americano? Appreciate your opinion.

They were made of al instead of steel but it didn't feel bad when I test rode one. Replaceable derailuer hanger, hub lights, even a built in lock! Eventhing about those bikes impressed me and were classy.
I have been researching touring bikes for 3 years and finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago.
My main concern was that I wanted a bike that was quality, comfortable and would last a long time. Buying one that is ACTUALLY ready for tour from the store says a lot about the manufacturer and their attention to detail. My girlfriend and I just purchased 2 Koga Miyata World Travellers and are in LOVE! They are pricey but we got a good deal from our LBS in Chicago. They do come stocked with high end components. Koga didn't skimp on anything...Brooks Conquest Saddle, XT all around, SKS Fenders, Light sensitive rear light, Tubus racks, built in bike-lock (I took mine off, it was a bit heavy but it is a good idea!) and a whole lot more.

I was set the day i bought it! I'm sure in time, as I start racking up the mileage, I will add modifications here and there, but that is to be expected.
You should check out www.downtheroad.org

It is about a couple traveling around the world by bike. They have recently switched to Koga WT's after running in to so many while in L.A./South America and after having significant trouble with their previous bikes. So far they are happy with them.
Previously, they rode a Bruce Gordon and a Co-motion.

Hands down, this is the best complete bike i could find. (without going custom and then buying all of the gear)
Also check out Koga's US site: www.kogausa.com

Well, I hope you find something that suites you well.

Keep ridin'
