neat, will watch it later when I have time.

You might be able to help, what specific area or thereabouts is his accent from?

I loved the first line or so, that after getting out of the army in 1946, he vowed that noone would order him about for another 20 years.....

There was a well known Canadian author named Farley Mowat who after getting out of the army, and after having been in the fighting going up Italy after the 1943 landings, was so sick of war, death and human ugliness, that he went up alone to the north of Canada doing some research, and ended up writing the book "Never Cry Wolf" and many other nature and animal based fiction stories and novels afterwards.
All directly influenced by his experiences of the war and disillusionment with that part of mankind.

cheers mr ham.

Hi djb , I can't tell exactly where in Scotland he is from , I think it mentions it somewhere in the videos , i'd have to watch again .

no worries, I have a Scottish brother in law and have a very limited ear for Scottish accents. My ability mostly comes down to "understanding" to "what did he say?"

cheers, look forward to watching it.

"Auchinleck, central Ayrshire..." Never heard of it. 35 miles South of Glasgow apparently.

This is great! :thumb:

I haven't gotten to part 2 yet but so far so good. Looks like he is traveling light. Is that a Caradice in pt. 1.? Check out his set-up @nun.

Edit: Pt. 2 shows his bag and gear at about 3:30.

Nice. Must have been c.1971, if he'd been out of the army 25 years. A man with a healthy sense of priorities, I'd say.
