I really don't have an opinion on quill stems. Some people like them, some don't.

I find threadless to be advantageous when setting up a new bike. That is because I can try different stems until I get one that has the exact reach and angle that I like. Quill stem is much harder to change stems. But once I get a bike set up the way I like it, does not matter to me if it is quill or threadless.

I used a bike decades ago, then put it in storage because I did not like the tubular tires on it. Last year I bought a used set of clincher wheels for it, so I had no excuse to not ride it any more. But when I rebuilt the bike, I decided to switch to different wider handlebars, modern brake levers, quill to threadless adapter and threadless stem for the reason cited above. The results are in the photo, but I am still using the early 60s vintage centerpull brakes on it that always worked well for me.
