My 920
 

It's Tues. 3-15-16 About 4 pm and in a couple of hours I'll go and pick up my Trek 920. I'm ready!! I'll send photos when I figure out how to. I've never posted photos before. Shouldn't be difficult.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics and reading about your impressions of the ride quality of the bike.

The initial ride around the neighborhood was good. Substantial frame, good smooth welds. Shifting with the brifters was crisp. Braking was good. Handling very good not at all sluggish, decent acceleration, felt more like my road bicycle than I would have thought. Saddle was fine. Nothing flexy about the wheels. Tires were noisy and picked up crap from the street that got thrown into the fenders, more noise. I'll work on the pics.

With the lever swap, node 2.1 computer, and sell the take offs, $2.5K or so.
Nice wide fenders, yes very nice. Bike Planet Cascadia fenders.

Upload the pic to flickr.
Take the picture's URL and copy it.
click the 3rd icon from the right in the text/response box.
select 'from url'.
paste the URL.
Unclick the prechecked box about remote retrieval.
Click 'OK'.

Or just save the pic to your computer/device, click the picture icon 3rd from the right, select 'from computer' and browse for the pic. select it and click 'OK'. This will only work if your picture is 1MB or smaller.


You have managed to troll this site hard for months now and basically insulting everyone at one time or another- surely you can spend 10min figuring out how to post a picture.
After you post the picture, leave. Stop posting and ride. Use all that info you learned from the UL backpacking site and do one of the 18 trips you have asked for info on without doing any research.
Then report back with pics. Itll be easy to post them at that point because you will have posted a pic of your new bike today.

You have expressed opinions which even you have then admitted were completely baseless and ignorant.
You have given advice though you lack experience and often dont grasp a poster's situation or request, which means your advice typically doesnt apply.
You have mocked the experience of others and at one point you made a sweeping denigration of the entire forum when it came to equipment.

My god you paid so much overprice for that rig. And you don't even have the new wheelset yet.

As a comparison I have been tricking out my lht with some of the nicest stuff one could reasonably get for a touring bike (B&M lights, hope rear hub and headset, microshift shifters, bb7 brake, deore brake, dt swiss rims etc etc) and I've yet to reach 2k. Far from it actually.

Huh? Why are you comparing a 920 to an LHT? It would make more sense to compare apples to apples, than apples to oranges.

No need to check in with someone in New York. See post #9 in this thread. It describes the ways you can upload photos. It's not complicated at all.

The issue is your credibility, or lack thereof. You can say you bought a bike, you can refer people to a website of the bike you say you bought, but until you prove you bought a bike, no one really believes you. It's your own doing, apparently, but I don't follow this stuff too closely. How to post pictures is explained above, so assuming you have basic computer literacy, you should be able to do this without too much difficulty.

Now go for a real ride and post pics of it fully loaded too after you get it dialed in. After getting the bike is when the real fun begins!

i consider myself to be relatively inexperienced in touring when compared ro most here. I havent toured other countries or across the US. I can only guess how annoying it is for those with a lot of experience to be asked questions and then be continually told their experience and insight is worthless.

I found the LHT unacceptable because of the handling. An extra $500 isn't much when it gets me a better frame and better components, proper handling . A top end road bicycle is $10K-$15. That puts a $5K Comotion and such mid range. It also puts $2.5 and such as low end. I didn't ask you to help fund me so it's really none of your business. Why do you care if I buy a $40 tire or a $20 tire. I'm glad you like your bicycle. So far I'm very pleased with mine, it's also 6 lbs lighter. And why would I need new wheels if I don't intend to carry 80 lbs of stuff I don't need.

Please know that the following comment is not directed at how much you spent. I couldnt care less how much you spent.

To claim a $2500 bike is low end just because bikes exist which cost $15000 is like claiming a $60000 Lexus is low end because cars exist which cost $750000.

Your reasoning is terrible. Of course a 60k lexus isnt low end. And of course a $2500 bike isnt low end.
You should think up a better comparison if you feel the need to justify your purchase. Your current example only insults those who spent $2000 and less for their bike since you call them all low end.


As for how you afforded the bike, again i couldnt care less. But for you to claim it isnt anyone's business is total bs. You told the board how you were going to pay for it. You opened the discussion up. If it isnt anyone's business, then don't advertise how you paid for it.

This is ridiculous, especially if you are comparing an expensive road bike to a Co-Motion touring bike.

BTW...My hand-drafted, custom ti road bike with DA 9000 is top end and was less than $10K.
