antokelly, I have photos of my two Cannondale touring bikes following the build of the blue one and the overhaul (It's true mission statement is a beater bike.) of the brown one. The blue one used mostly parts bin items from my Cannondale roadies along with a couple of new items while the only non OEM pieces on the brown one are the 3D printed top tube cable guides and the crank set. I followed a lot of the advice from this forum when initially building the blue one.

There's a sticky up top for pictures of touring bikes.

Also, riding in the rain is fun.

This is the one I didn't buy...
Went for a Bob Jackson World Tour instead, and am more than pleased with my choice...
But the Mercian is still a pretty bike

Oh and stop complaining about the rain Anto... You only got some of it. The rest waited until this afternoon to pour down on us a bit further east ;p

Here's my LHT Mullet, made of inferior steel which likely won't last real touring (/s). I would have posted it into the loaded bike category, but it hasn't been loaded for a while now. It doesn't follow any of the bike posting rules, but I don't really care about those.

It's self built so has none of the full LHT stock parts, except seat clamp.

Some nifty features are the steerer mounted bell, fork crown mounted light (B&M IXON IQ Premium) and the cool spacers.

The lowest bottle cage will have to go since I can't fit anything in it. We have 2x Klean Kanteen 40oz bottles per person, which should be quite enough in Europe. We might take our bladder, but I suspect it'll stay empty even in the hottest regions.

Headset and rear hub are hope, rims are DT Swiss TK540, spokes are Dt Swiss Alpine III tensioned at 120kgf at highest, brass spokes, rest is reliable Shimano, except the bar ends which are Microshift (and better than Dura Ace if you can believe it). 9 speeds and 3 chainrings up front, the largest of which being 44 tooth and smallest 22 tooth. Front brake is Avid BB7, rear Shimano Deore V-brake with Kool Stop dual compound cartridges.

Racks are tubus Tara and Cargo mounted with grade 8.8 bolts, Fenders are SKS Bluemels (should have gotten longboards)

Tires are Schwalbe marathon (front) and Schwalbe marathon plus (rear) at 37mm wide

Elcrux, it's a wonder you haven't killed yourself on that inferior thing yet... consider buying better quality if you can

Here's a high quality touring machine complete with racks and lighting:

You really have to look hard at that thing to appreciate all the variety... that bike has. But you know how it goes, put a bit of every bike type into one and the end result will be awesome at everything.

The retaining strap on a seat bag I was using at the time broke. I moved all of the contents into a wide mouth water bottle and used the bottom cage.

Did it require modifications to be able to mount a front disc brake?

A Disc Trucker fork. No point modifying the existing one when there's such a cheap and easy way to just swap the fork completely. And the DT fork is a bit beefed as well so there's that.

Browse around in the Trek 520 thread, plus there is a vintage touring bike thread someplace in the Classic&Vintage section of the site here.

MIELE UNO circa 1985 now converted to touring with brazeons for cantilever brakes, rack mounts and third watter bottle brazeons under the downtube.

#04a Miele Uno L.S. Rebuilt 4 Touring - Added Bottle Mount, Canti-brake Studs & Bridge by Miele Man, on Flickr

Cheers

Great pics, keep em coming!
(I can't believe Red and Black has a 14 foot LHT)

1987 Raleigh Quicksilver mtb set up for touring. I rode it to work today. It's heavy, it has a dork disc and a basket but I can't help liking it:
