light on the fork? how to.

How can a light be mounted to the fork? When I attach a bag to my handle bar it will interfere with my bar mounted light. My first couple of attempts were successful in the short term, but not the long term. A light mounted on each side of the fork works well, and is desirable. Two flash lights for example, one on each side. With most lights the mounting bracket is not wide enough to fit around the fork blade. Some do not have enough rotation to make up for the angle of the fork, the light points up.

Problem Solvers makes a light mount. It replaces the nut on your front quick release, works pretty well.

Google "light mounting fork knobs". I have 2 on our tandem. They work very well, better than bar mounts because they are lower and throw better shadows.

Nitto makes one for racks (Lamp Holder 3 M6 bolt) and for QR skewers (Lamp Holder 5, IRD does a similar version) and Paul's Gino Mount mounts on QR skewers and is MUSA and probably comes in some fun colors.

Problem Solvers also makes a unit that mounts on the brake posts. That is if you have Cantis or V brakes. We have these on a few of our bikes.

Busch & Muller makes a fork crown mount for their IXUS line battery powered lights. The IXUS lights follow the German traffic code which means a relatively powerful light (depends on the model of course) on a very specified area which also does not blind the people coming towards you (unlike all the usual powerful led lights on the market)

I got my GF a fork crown mount that should be able to mount any handlebar mounting light

And honestly it's not all that difficult to make one like that yourself, just get some wire, a piece of PVC and bend/glue/gorilla tape that thing together. The fork crown mount most often seen in dynamo lights is the most sensible place to mount a light in my opinion as you can still put it on and adjust light power when riding.

My bag is mounted fairly high and does not interfere with my headlight that is mounted to the fork crown. Having the light at this location does prevent other bags, racks, etc. from being mounted here, but it is a choice you have to make if you want your light on the fork crown.

Does your bike have a mid-fork mount for the attachment of panniers? If so, you can install one of the aforementioned mounts or make your own. I have constructed several mounts out of PVC pipe for a total cost of about $1 each, using small PVC pipe and connectors that I bought at the hardware store. Here is a photo of my touring bike with the mount and a light attached to the front fork. Most of the time, I connect the mount to left chain stay and use a taillight on it while commuting.

The way I've mounted mine on mid fork mounts is to cut a ~2" length of steerer tube from a junk fork at the co-op, pound a fork starnut into it, and then get a long bolt and headset top cap and thread the the bolt in through the top cap, through the starnut and into the mid blade eyelet on the fork.

I did something similar, but I just drilled a hole in a 1 inch diameter piece of wood from a broom handle (remember when they were actually made of wood?) and used a long M5 bolt to thread it to the midfork brazeon for the front low rider rack.

There is a widget made for QBP to mount a Light from the center bolt that Holds Your V brakes On.

I had a Braze On Added to my Low Rider racks Hoop then re powder coated , 1st I made a Flashlight battery pack light with wired

Halogen head & bulb taillights , then LED lights got better & I had another bike to ride daily thru the winter , so the summer touring Bike got a

"light mounting fork knob" from Paul's CNC machines ,. to Put a Handlebar Battery light on it when It was going to be dark.

Usually I've made camp or found the Hostel, before then.
