STR, really would be nice if you indicated SPECIFICALLY where your pictures were taken as I would like to add them to my "Places to Visit" list for when/if I am ever in that area. Thanks

helo John,
Georgia is very small. There is lots of information around in the net. Easy to find. This was my third time, it was very nice again. Many roads in rural areas are right now reformed, many roads will become tarmac roads.
These tarmac roads will bring more comfort for the Georgian population, also it will bring the lazy tourist easier into remote locations. I don't like that, but sure it's great for the Georgians. Most probably this was my last time,
after being there in 2016 and 2019 I have seen changes, more tourists, more cars, more traffic to the remote places, not masses, but more people.

A must is a visit to Tusheti, stay there some days and explore by bike the villages of Tusheti. If your hardcore you can cross from Tusheti on or with bike to Khevsureti, beautiful! I did it 2019 with horses: https://stefanrohner.exposure.co/georgia-caucasus-1
It's a great great 45km walk along the Russian border. The Abano Pass into Tusheti is spectacular, all off road 33km 2400m climbing! Abano Pass the whole road into Tusheti is fantastic! (but also here, more people compared to my last time.

Svaneti: around Mestia and to Ushguli, beautiful, have been there 2016 and 2019, we did not go this time, to me its already too touristy, not that there is mass tourism, but one sees more people now. And if I hate something it's this: people are carried to nice places with buses, take pictures and leave again.

Adjara: did not went back there (was there 2016), but I remember well a beautiful place. I leave you here the link of a Georgian Final Days of Georgian Nomads (Ongoing) - NATELA GRIGALASHVILI and her IG https://www.instagram.com/natela_gri...NlZDc0MzIxNw==

Tori mountains, all green woods, more high mountains passes! Zekari Pass for example 46km from Baghdati, 2230m climbing. It is worth to plan some off road tours in this region.

Javakheti, with Tabatskuri and Paravani Lake, I love that place, very remote, feels like one is in Kirgistan or some of these places.

Our tour was a bit over 1000km, 16.000m climbing! aprox 70% off road. It's very hard! but if one wants to get off the mainstream path it gets hard! ;)))
All was planed at home with RIDEwithGPS.

Your questions please! ;)))

Could this be referring to land mines ?

I just noticed an article ""The area around the Hum-Šćepan Polje border crossing is being cleared of mines".

Careful where you step.

CMAW 09-07-24 01:04 PM

Land mines, yes. But the area has been cleaned up, the signs on the houses probably date from the end of the war. 7 years ago I was in Bosnia as well and I did see a lot of mine warning signs urging to stay on the road in some parts of the country. This year none. I hope this is not a coincidence but proof that the mess is almost dealt with.

Yes I did. While the information you provide is interesting, as I have mentioned to everyone, I really like it when the location is provided as I add it to my "Places to See" file when traveling. This file has hundreds of places I have initially thought I would eventually like to see so I also add to it so if I am in Spain, Georgia, Columbia, Texas, wherever, I have my own person "Best places to see". It has been great in the past to have these "personal places to see".

You usually take great pics of interesting places, many of which I would like to visit if I visit that area. However, like most pics people submit, the specific location is not usually provided. For instance, I can not tell what photo goes with "Abano Pass". If the photo had a caption of something like "Up the Albano Pass", that would help immensely as you have several pass-type pictures but I can't determine which one is Abano for instance.

Again, I am not picking on you specifically as almost everyone does it. You just get my requests because you go to interesting places (to me at least) and usually have a good eye for pics which locations are unfortunately (for me) not usually specifically indicated.

Keep taking the great pics on your travels.

I understand, thank you. I see it different, I love to explore myself where to go, and plan with all errors and beautiful it brings. When I stumble over other peoples pictures in the net I start the research, IG for example is great for that, or Flickr, and with a little hint/tag I start looking. In the same way I found Abano Pass, somebody has passed there with a bike and I saw a picture somewhere.... I googled it, from there I started to plan my first tour in Georgia. Many times I also ask the owner of the picture in which part of the country the picture was taken. Also I get many times the same question, I have no exact locations of where my pictures are taken, but then provide a whole area of that place what is great for touring, like I did here in the forum several times, with screenshots of maps.
Thank you for the answer, best Stef.

a very common site in Latin America also, and often things left in remembrance as well. This was a particularly unfortunate corner and ravine in Guatemala.

Bad year for ticks here. I found one at the nape of my neck the very next day.

I thought I might have had a tick bite earlier this year, and didn't take the chance and got the antibiotic at a pharmacy.
It's a drag, but we really have to be aware of these now. Lyme's disease is pretty crappy.
The growing number of tick and Lyme's disease is something we all must be informed about.
