Once again, the CPSC with the weight of US federal law does not agree with your definition.
http://www.cpsc.gov/PageFiles/93295/low.pdf The CFR reg you noted is just what specifications an electric bicycle must meet to be classified as an "electric bicycle." The states make the decision as to when Electric bicycles are allowed on paths designated as "motorized vehicles prohibited." Washington State is an example where "electric bicycles" are allowed on multiuse trails and bikelanes. However, they are NOT allowed on trails specified as "motorized vehicles prohibited." This includes sidewalks. |

I'm sure it's 'fun', but you like some others here are missing the point I was trying to make in the OP. It's not about me or people my age, it's about young healthy people taking on physical and mental challenges by motorising. I find it sad and worry that it may become the norm.

And again, you took the original way of doing the pilgrimage, walking, and went with the quicker and easier on yourself way. It probably saddens and worries actual religious pilgrims that they have to share the trail in question with adventure seekers and bikers, too. Everything has a perspective, you chose an easier method than others, others chose yet an easier way of doing things than you.
You don't know what you're talking about, get back when you do. |

True, but by federal law they are not motor vehicles.
Correct, but you need to be careful. 25mph is the point which a vehicle w/a motor is actually classified as a "motor vehicle." (40 CFR 85.1703 ) Go ahead and tour on an Electric Bicycle if it floats your boat. But do not take them places you should not be. |

Yes, very nice....
This is a touring site. You make it sound like you are a victim of having to read this site. Everyone is a victim of some sort of discrimination. I get it. What does your little blurb have to do with anything on a TOURING site? |

Your perspective is one of ignorance.
You don't know what you're talking about, get back when you do. You chose to do a religious pilgrimage traditionally done by foot for non religious reasons on an allowable but easier method. Why do you feel the right to criticize others who do it in an easier way than you, when there are more than likely religious walkers looking at you with disdain?

------- Anyways, since I'm not the one that wants to get the thread closed down, and I'm not going to convince anyone their disdain of something that affects them in no way is irrational and unnecessary, I'm outta here. |

IMHO This thread really should have been closed, or moved, several pages ago. However, the Mods clearly decided not to, that is their decision. . Closed. |
