I'm doing the route in sections when I can get time off work. Last time it was Astoria to Florence, where some friends have a sweet cottage on the cliffs. Met my girl there and we spent the weekend and then drove home together.

This time we're driving down and spending the weekend, then she's driving home alone. She's also flying down to LA and we're doing four days at Disneyland, then she's flying back. I'll continue on to San Diego/Tijuana and I'm taking Amtrak back to Portland. I'm really looking forward to relaxing for 36 hours on the train in a sleeper car.

Mostly calm or light tailwinds. May 2013 Brookings rain day was also wind from South but that was an exception.

That makes sense. Florence is kind of difficult to get into for the start of a trip, but if you're coming/going by car then that problem is solved. I used to live about two dozen miles from Florence as the car rolls, but the best ways there by bike were a lot longer than that.

Have a fun trip.

The wind was coming from the north. So, it was helpful going to San Diego !

You should have a good trip at that time. I think after Labor Day would be my first choice, but Summer would be my second choice and is a good time to go. I would tend to avoid winter for the PC.

BTW, despite the fact that some mention Spring as a good time, it has tended to be very rainy when I have been there in the Spring especially the northern portion. So I'd prefer to avoid spring there.
