Two Randonee Questions
I'm considering a 2017 Co-Op ADV 1.1 (Rebranded Randonee) when they come out as well as a LHT. I'm assuming that most frame and clearance measurements will stay the same.
Those of you with Randomness:
1. What is the largest size tires you can fit with fenders and have adequate mud clearance? Yes, I know I can wait and measure, but I enjoy research and planning ahead. Also, sometimes my LBS runs a February or March sale including Surleys so I want as much info as possible.
2. The Co-Op has in line brakes will the Surly LHT has V-brakes. Is one style superior to the other? ( I'm not interested in disc brakes.)
Thank you.

About tires: Schwalbe Smart Sams 700x45 the outer knobs would rub the chainstays (until I filed those outer knobs down a little). 700x40 Mondials leave a decent amount of room. There's more tire space in the front than in the back.

Are you running these tires with fenders?

The Randonee and its rim brakes do not like mud. I am not sure that any rim brakes are adequate in mud.
I have the original 700X32 with fenders (plastic Planet Bike Hardcore). They don't like crossing a muddy road, let alone riding on one.
You get bigger tires/lesser clearances, bigger trouble.

I've had up to 700Cx37 tires with fenders on my 2009 Randonee. I usually ride 32 or 35s to reduce tire SKUs in the garage bike shop, and rarely notice the difference.

IIRC I used up to 37mm wide tires on the 2008 Randonée w/fenders. 622mm/700C LHT gives 42mm allowance & 559mm/26" LHT gives 53mm, big improvement. BTW AFAIK the Co-Op has V-brakes & the LHT has cantilever brakes. V-brakes are not V-shaped, illogical name thanks to Shimano geniuses. I think majority of rim-brake tourists use cantis but folks use V-brakes too.
