Surly Ogre + Surly Front Rack?!? Having problems
So I was wondering if anyone had successfully gotten a new Surly Front Rack on a Surly Ogre with disc brakes. It seems like the front rack isn't wide enough. If someone could post some pictures of all 4 contact points that would help.
I think Surly changed their front rack, the pics I look at have a slightly different rack on the front. Surly says it will work, here is a quote: Our front rack WILL work with disc brakes on our Troll, Ogre, and Disc Trucker frames. It may take a bit of work to get clearance around the front caliper since the many different calipers out there are many different shapes. Our new attachment plates will limit any DIY ingenuity you might need, but if you need to throw a washer or three behind the lower left bolt where the plate attaches to the fork dropout, that’s not a big deal. EDIT: Got it on, but don't know if it is too close to the brakes: This is Just an overview of how I connected it: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ld...=w1291-h727-no This is the brake not engaged(about 2.5mm distance): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_1...=w1291-h727-no This is the brake engaged(about 2.3mm distance): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7a...=w1291-h727-no This is the clearance, I don't think it will touch my Pannier when it is on, I don't have them yet unfortunately https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/mC...Z=w497-h882-no The fenders look like they'll work, I will just get a few 20mm m5 bolts and connect them with the top bolt on the bottom bracket on the rack, if that makes sense. So if the clearance on for the brake is fine I guess I'm good to go! They are really solid, I think I would have to take quite a hit to have them touch the brakes, or so I think. but 2.5mm or 2.3mm? It seems like that just isn't enough clearance. |
