92 Miyata 700 GT witth all the fixin's

Picked up this 92 700 GT tourer for free the other day. Wow! Started tearing it down and cleaning it last night. It fits me better than the Trek 520 I am building so this may become my tourer instead. Sugino, Sansin, Suntour XC Pro parts. I already have a new low range 7 speed freewheel for it and will lace the Sansin rear hub to a new Araya 700/35 rim this week. The low range freewheel with the Sugino 28, 40, 50 crank will do it well for hill climbing. Too cool.

What??? In Oak Park??? You're lucky I didn't see that first! Really gotta get myself on those facebook buy/sell groups....

And what the heck is up with freebies in Detroit? My cousin garbage picked a nearly spotless vintage Specialized Rockhopper yesterday.

Congrats!

I am really glad that a great old bike went into the hands of a "bike guy"....I am a fan of the Miyatas I ride a 1986 610 as a daily commuter for the past 10 years. Nothing on it is original except maybe the seat binder bolt and the front caniti brakes.

Is that the triple butted splined tubing?

Yes it is. Got part of it done... I laced that beautiful Sansin rear hub to a new Araya 700/35 rim last night. The old rims were really worn in from the brakes. Someone enjoyed a lot of miles on it over the years. I'll put it in the truing stand tonight and finish it up.

ok ...I will say it "beautiful satin finish"

Are the bearings just as silky smooth as they look?

Ahem...I mean do they work as well as they look

Miyata never got huge distribution in the US but IIRC some folks said they were the best Japanese production bikes.

I scored one in august and it's pretty much NOS. Everything but the saddle were original including tires. Dusted it off and rode it 85 miles the next day. I wasn't thrilled about the unicrown fork but I could care less. This thing is pretty damn amazing, not as cushy as my 85' 620 but also not as sluggish. I actually want to adapt the geometry to make a modern all road touring bike.
