Google Maps refuses to route me between Muir Beach and Stinson Beach

I am looking at options for next years tour that will allow me to take the Zephyr back home. One option is to do a bit of the northern California coast on Route 1 then cut inland.

I am trying to route together for Route 1 north of San Fransisco. Google just refuses to route between Muir Beach and Stinson Beach even in car mode. It wants to take you on the Panoramic Highway. You can't even force it to take that section. RidewithGPS has the same results. Anyone know that is going on? Perhaps @raybo can shed some light on this?

Originally I was going to just ride up the coast then route inland to Sacramento but after thinking about the wind on the coast I think it best that I take a bus north then ride back towards San Fransisco then route inland.

Apparently because of H1 road closures.

Maybe. Funny google was routing you all the way down route 1 south of San Fransisco. But won't route you now.

It will route you between just south of Big Sur to Ragged Point but it shows road closures.

If I go with my bus north plan I will likely not ride that section anyway.

Strava lets you do it.

It's a pain how Google Maps do that. There are some seasonal roads that it won't let you use when they're closed. You can try to drag the route all you want, but it just won't happen. I'm sure they do that because they want their GPS directions to be accurate, but I wish there was some kind of option to turn that off for research purposes.

Earlier this year Monitor Pass was open, but the map still wouldn't let me use it. RWGPS would let me use it, though. In that case I was able to report it, but that's not going to help in your situation.
