I guess the Trek folks finally decided to jump on the disc brake touring bandwagon. I still love my Disc Trucker and will recommend the buhjezzus out of it but it is not too shabby seeing more options out there. Though it is a touch late maybe?
I just wish they would have some sort of heritage logo for it. I am not big on the Trek font.

Bikes: Surly LHTD with a YAK trailer. I may have to ditch the trailer and go to panniers but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Re: weight ?, If you dont find it on the Trek Website, go to the bike shop , weigh one when they get it . Which they will, if you order one.
seems weight weenies dont buy touring bikes anyhow .. Get a Carbon frame/ fork bike like nun.

Just got one a few weeks ago. Went on a 40 mile over night ride and camped. So far I love it. Also got the Fuji " touring ", wanted to compare the two. Haven't loaded the Fuji down yet, so it will be interesting to compare for myself instead of reading about it by other riders. Will give my humble opinion soon. The "gun metal" Black paint job looks nice, the disc brakes handled my "extra-wheel" very nicely coming down hills. ( Alaska ). May need slightly smaller front chainring. ( or better yet, I need to get in better shape )��

You've responded to a 3 year old thread.
BTW, Trek 520 is no longer sold as a rim-braked bike as of 2018 models - disc brake is only option for the 520. Similarly, Surly LHT is no longer sold with cantilever brakes as of 2018 models - Vee brake is only option on LHT Complete.

My bad I guess? I thought the original thread was about the Trek 520 with disc brakes. 3 years ago? I believe 2017 is the first year of this feature?
