Touring Tips for Souther CA?

Moving to the LA South Shore for the next few months. Any great places to ride other than the Strand? Any rails to trails in the area?

southern california specifically los angeles? the south bay area?

in no particular order:
griffith park
elysian park
downtown la w/dodger stadium, echo park, elysian park, chinatown, arts district, silverlake, hollywood.
hollywood hills (easy to incorporate griffith, elysian, dtown la and the hollywood hills into a 30+ mile ride.)
the strand bike path from redondo beach to santa monica (about 18 flat miles one way)
santa monica mountains (more hills/climbs than you can shake a stick at)
palos verdes peninsula (ditto but santa monica mtns lite-all climbs < 3 miles)
angeles national forest-where the big boys hang out. glendora mountain road (gmr).
glendora ridge road (grr). often abbv/ridden as gmr/grr enroute to mt baldy. ouch.
also ca hwy 39 up to ca hwy 2 and then to dawson saddle at 7,900 ft.
also ca hwy 2 from la cañada to mt. wilson and the various loop variations thru the nearby canyons.
long beach bike path south from dtown long beach to seal beach area.
long beach bike path from dtown long beach to dtown los angeles.

there's more but you get the idea. flats in the basin but hills/mtns on the edges. coming from mccall,
i'm sure you're familiar with plenty o' hills/mtns...we don't have much in the way of rails to trails but we do have
trails near freeways. the listings above are all roadie ideas which (some) could be (partially) repurposed for mtn biking.

this is a question maybe better suited for the regional southern california forum. if touring, plenty of short, medium and long touring options
whether starting in socal or just passing thru.

Thanks oogabooga,

I have ridden the Strand from end to end several times and while it is very scenic, it can be crowded and is boringly flat. Also have ridden from Redondo Beach up and around Paulo’s Verdes. The ride up was good but the ride back down got very narrow in places. I think I will check out some of the mountain trails. I am taking a couple of dual sport bikes (1/2 hybrid 1/2 MTB) so perfect, I hope, for both Road and easy trails.

I think the Santa Monica hills will be my first target. Our house is in Hermosa Beach, so can I connect from the the Strand in Santa Monica to the Hill Trails?
