Are E-bikes really bikes?

ksryder 11-06-17 11:49 AM

Row vs. Wade... you know, for backcountry water crossings. :innocent:

hfbill 11-06-17 12:06 PM

Whether or not listening to music while riding is OK

Yes. But they don't hide as well when trespassing while stealth camping!

J.Higgins 11-06-17 02:11 PM

should you cut the handle off your toothbrush?

indyfabz: (As to your bucket o' chicken)

"Yeah but...When you tour is it better to get regular or extra crispy?"

djb 11-06-17 06:27 PM

and don't even get me started on drive train maintenance and chain lube preference.....

djb 11-06-17 06:35 PM

last week I was listening to a podcast of this CBC comedy radio show that I like, and really lol'd at this skit

Home | This is That with Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring | CBC Radio

scroll down to sept 28th show, one of the skits is about a new service to bring people face to face to fight over online arguments

you can probably listen to the episode, it was rather funny, and of course I thought of this topic here........

I thought real cyclists just argue fine mundane details about things and occasionally actually ride.

Tut tut..

BF vs CGOAB and the equally entertaining sub argument: Is one of those formats outdated.

One my personal favorites has to be the carbon footprint of twig burning stoves.

saddlesores 11-06-17 07:44 PM

we did it better in the ancient times....
vs.
you new guys are doing it all wrong.

OR

you cycling luddites are going the way of the dinos....
vs.
electronic-shift e-bike with bluetooth gotta-pee indicator is futurific!

doesn't get realer than risking sure death by riding in cutoff jeans.

The most important and contentious debate ever was the one on whether or not to make an ass gasket on the toilet. Some people may have been right that they do not stop bacteria or viruses, but a few right thinking people just don't want to sit directly on all that sweaty history. The hover or cover debate was pretty enlightening.

Ridefreemc 11-06-17 08:28 PM

We humans just like to argue. I used to be on a sailing forum and it was the same, and got really bad in the winter. Same with motorcycling forums (HD vs others, etc.).

Mountain Bikers vs. Roadies.

Anyone with a differing opinion is wrong so it really doesn't matter :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

What's worse, a warm seat in a public restroom or an ice cold one at home?

boomhauer 11-07-17 01:32 PM

to dig or not to dig a hole before defecating in the woods.
(I lost this argument by a wide margin)

autonomy 11-07-17 02:51 PM

I've seen this pop up in several places/pictures: panniers in front with seat bag or fully-loaded rear with perhaps a bar bag? (guess a lot of it depends on load weight but I've seen people question front-loaders)

Is it safe to assume you are/were in the not to camp? I had to use the woods during my June trip. Both times there was no time to dig holes.

Mantus anchors vs Rocna anchors.....wait....wrong forum. :D

Steel vs Aluminum vs Carbon.
I actually enjoy the debate on most of these topics and don't take it personal.

This thread has has made me chuckle; good onya' OP for for starting it. At the time of this writing my post count is only 25 ......... and have already become a pariah to some in the single speed/ fixie community. My offense was coming to the aid of someone who flipped bullhorn(flop and chop) style handlebars to take advantage of the ergonomic curve of the handles (plow style). Wow, there's some vitriol with that group that nearly equals what I've experienced in the motorcycle community.

New topic of disagreement:

Mounting handle bars upside down or right side up.:)

Best Regards

Rod

Need for GI less than 20 vs more than 100.
Cape or jacket.
Marathon Plus or not.

Someone tried to debate me about the merits of clipless over flats: I went for a ride.

gerryl 11-08-17 03:36 AM

The ridiculous idea that you have to spend lots of money to get yourself an excellent touring bike.
