Three weeks in Taiwan
I've got three week's to cycle in Taiwan starting late February. Besides the east coast, what are other great rides?

Look for public roads into the hills. They have white signs with numbers. English E.G. “Gong lu 115”. (Expect no English but friendly locals) The mtn roads have less traffic. Use a rear mirror to ditch scary situations. Bikes are lowest priority so give way. Smiles go a long way.

We stayed in Hualien for the 6 days or so we were there ... one day train ride to Hualien, 4 days cycling out in different directions, one day train ride back to Taipei.
There's some lovely cycling around there! We went out to Liyu Lake one day and south along the coast on Hwy 11 on another day, north another day, and wandered all over the city another day. |
Coming in from the Taroko Gorge is beautiful. If you like mountains you can continue up the cross-island highway #8. But be aware that that's an entire day driving by car, let alone by bike.
Same for the Southern cross-island highway #20. Yushan is a beautiful park. Kening NP in the south is nice but very hot during summer because of its tropical location. |
thanks. keep'em coming...
