I think I fell in love today

Today, I went to a LBS to see if the 2018 models had come out. In the middle of a lively debate about rear axle widths; there I saw her:
A 2018 Giant ToughRoad SLR 1 with front and rear racks. I first looked over, gape-eyed at the robust racks and the carbon fork with mounts. Then peeking at the unused mount holes with a rubber stopper to keep water out. the 700 X 50 tires looked like they could travel over anything. The almost perfect tour gearing of 28/42 X 11-36 had me dreaming of over-loaded uphill battles, then my mind was ripped back into reality when the mechanic tried to tell me that the only rear rack that will fit my fat bike is from the fat bike's manufacturer.
I left that shop without so much as a good bye to my new found soul mate, and I have not been able to get that bike out of my mind.

In the end: Anybody have experience with this particular bike? Would like to hear your impressions.

Succumb to the lust. No regrets. 28-36 would leave me wanting. She's never perfect at first, just needs a little makeover and some attention to detail. ( talking a bike of course)

I did not want to seem too forward, after all, we just met, but the internet has some great images, posing and candid.

When I get emotionally attached to an object I walk away.

Give it two or three days and the feeling usually goes away and I'm glad my wallet is still intact.

I wisth they would have made that model in a different color. Not big on the feminine look of the bike. SLR2 looks much better.

Well, that's just me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One mans skinny road whip is another's fat bike buxom beauty. Carry on....

When I look at bikes, I don't see color. I feel we are all the same inside.

Ok, maybe hot pink would turn me off

The front half of her seems plasticky. Prefer old school guns of steel.

Sir, are you saying that my betrothed is not a natural beauty and she may have had some reconstruction from a plastic surgeon?

BTW, that's a carbon fork hence the plasticky look.
I know. I didn't say she would travel the world with me, but what a whirl wind romance we could have.

I am not a huge fan of the Giant. I think the bike concept is kind of neat but the execution lacks but I am not a huge fan of aluminum and wouldn't really want more than a light rando rack on a carbon fork.

Giant frequently ruins it for me with their proprietary seatposts and racks. Maybe the D-fuse or whatever is slightly more comfortable and aero but goofy shapes and wedges don't work well in the real world (in CAD programs they are probably the bee knees) also proprietary racks are even more silly because if you are putting a rack on a bike aerodynamics is not the factor anymore. Just use the standard braze-ons like everyone else if you are making a removable rack if the rack is a permanent part of the frame than integrate it well and cut some weight! I know that Giant has standard braze on's but they have to use their goofy proprietary stuff.

That all being said I like the idea of a modernized fully rigid mountain hybrid with a carbon fork, so ditch the racks and I am in. A fun bike to rip around on in all sorts of terrains is an excellent idea. For this bike if they made it out of steel and used a standard 27.2 seat post and clamp with similar clearance (or more) and maybe had a trekking style bar on it it could be a fun tourer for those not wanting drops.
