Rear rack for 650B wheels
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a56c99423.jpeg
My friend got a custom built touring bike and it came equipped with a Tubus Disco rear carrier. The rack can be mounted on eyelets or on the axle. Even when mounted on the axle, the rack is too high above the wheel and the weight of two panniers will be too high. She cannot use front panniers, but only a randonneur rack due to the carbon fiber fork. Tubus makes a Disco for 650B wheels but do not import it to the US. I just wanted to know if anyone has a recommendation of a rear carrier that will handle panniers and will allow a lower center of mass. She will have fenders and I want the rack to mount as low as possible over the fender. Thanks in advance. |

Some racks might not fit very well on a bike with a disc brake mounted on the seat stay. So, shop carefully and try to figure out if the brake unit will get in the way of the other racks you look at.
Some frames that are intended for touring with racks and fenders put the brake on the chain stay instead for that reason. I suspect that this frame was not intended for a rear rack because it looks like the upper rack mounts don't exist, instead I see one of those seapost clamps that has the upper rack mounts built in. I have never contacted Wayne at the Touring Store but on this board there are many that have had praise for his assistance. Since he sells a selection of Tubus, he might be able to help. https://thetouringstore.com/ Looks like they are closed for a few days. *** You said you can't put a low rider rack on the front because it is a carbon fork. There are carbon forks that have the mid-fork mounts. I do not know who makes them but a friend of mine has a Tubus Tara mounted on a carbon fork on his touring bike. But I do not know if such forks are available for 650b or not, my friends bike is 700c. |
Thanks for the valuable replies. I am going to suggest she visit her LBS and get it fit with her fenders installed. May just wind up with a simple Blackburn design rack.
