Blue Ridge Pkwy in NC

I'm going to be riding from Blowing Rock down to Asheville. I checked the Blue Ridge Pkwy website and I guess the road is out for about 8 miles around Linville Falls. Does anyone know if it would be able to be cycled? I don't want to have to take the detour unless the road is actually unridable.

Also, this 100 miles or so-anybody done it that can give me some advice?

Thanks

I think I read something about this on the Cycle North Carolina discussion forum. Perhaps check there.

Give the park office a call and ask them. They should be the best source of information.

People do ride the parkway during the winter after its closed. This is different though. There is active road work to rebuild the road. The workers might not appreciate it. But then again... if you go on a weekend... they might not be there. Sorry to be vague, but ridding through is a personal call. I live on the other side of Asheville, so I don't know if people are riding it anyway. Calling the park officials will probably get you the official responce of its a closed road... maybe not. I've driven most that route but only ridden from Mitchel to asheville. For your perspective that will all be down hill. If you want to go to Mitchel, I would highly recomend it. Its one steep road however. Beyond that... Around Linville there are actually a few "flat" sections.
Have fun,
Scott

If it is not too late already, there are two sections closed on the parkway. First from mp 317-325 and then from mp 344-355. These sections are closed to all traffic including pedestrians and bicylces.
