Or Vice versa!

Looks like a stay over in Hood River is going to be worth it if I can fit it in. Need to do the math.

One more question, OK that is probably a lie.

What about the ride up to Government Camp from Hood River? Looks like a long steady climb but not too awful steep? Any concerns about wind?

OK I told you I was lying.

What about the road up to Timberline? If I still have the legs in me, I might want to take a ride up there. Or I might opt to take the lift or whatever they have up there. I understand it is where the Shining was filmed? Would really like to see the hotel. I also understand the drive at the start of the movie was part of the road on the gorge?

Can't answer that for ya, I've never done 35 from Hood River to Gov't Camp. And you might get a better response to questions like this via a new thread, since this thread has drifted pretty far from Kelso-Portland. But anyways...

I have ridden 26 from Sandy to Government Camp. Generally decent shoulder, lots of traffic.

My preferred option out that way is Lolo Pass Road on the north side of Hood. Quiet and scenic with a few miles of gravel. It won't get you to Gov't Camp or Timberline, though.

There are two ways up there. I've done West Leg Road, which is not the main way up (i.e. it's quieter). It's about 2,000 feet of climbing in about six miles, with a lot of 7-10% grades. And I did it without a touring load.

The other way is Timberline Hwy, the main way. A bit shorter, a lot more traffic, and also some pretty steep grades.
