Dangers from Ducks?
Calling [MENTION=186391]indyfabz[/MENTION]. I'm not *overly* worried about ducks. I just want to hear the Chuck Jones Daffy Duck story.

-Matt Leon had somewhat of a lisp. So when Daffy was being created, the animators went to Mel Blanc (I am going to assume you know who he is.) looking for a voice for this new character. They asked him if he could do Schlesinger and his lisp as a screwball duck. When the first short was ready, Schlesinger entered the screening room, sat down and said, as he often did, "Roll the junk." They all expected to be fired on the spot. Just the opposite. After watching the piece Schlesinger told them he really loved the character's voice and asked how they had come up with it. He never knew they were mocking him. I forget the story as to how, but my stepbrother, who later went on to own a video production company, somehow became acquainted with Mel Blanc. Blanc was nice enough to record personalized answering machine greetings for him; one in the voice of Bugs and the other in the voice of Porky Pig. Pretty cool to hear. |

What’s the story behind Oregon’s mascot? I mean, ducks don’t exactly command respect or instill fear in anyone. Or am I unaware of a lurking danger? Neither do beavers, but at least they could gnaw on you. What’s a duck going to do, quack at you? |
Nesting geese are nasty in my neck of the woods this time of year.

Apparently the "Ducks" have a long history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Duck Beginning with some pioneers nicknamed the "Webfoots". The early mascot was "Puddles" the Duck, but eventually merged with Donald Duck back in the 1940's. Oh, and the Oregon Duck is apparently the only school mascot to visit Disneyland. Due to some controversy a decade ago, the formal Disney trademark relationship was severed in 2010. |

Interesting. I always saw the giant letter "O" on peoples cars & what-not and figured the University of Oregon being all about "The Big Golden O" was the worlds biggest inside joke. :roflmao2:
But the duck thing is interesting too. |
Much of "Animal House" was filmed at the University of Oregon and in Eugene. (Several school refused to allow it to be filmed on their campuses.) The homecoming parade scenes were filmed in the town of Cottage Grove, OR. I spent a night outside of Cottage grove during the 2007 edition of Cycle Oregon. Took the shuttle into town and walked the main street. (May I have 10,000 marbles, please!) At I home I have a photo of a restaurant sign that can be seen in the film.

Oregon is way cooler than most folks realize. Don't forget, "The Legend Of Boggy Creek", starring the real Sasquatch. 🥺🤔😁 I had breakfast once in Salem, and figured out that one of the senators of Oregon was sitting in the next booth. Imagine a bike bum & a senator, nearly eating together. 😁 Oh yeah, and Portland. Kinda cool. If you like ducks. 😁 |

I've never been attacked by one, but I try not to get between the adults and the goslings. I have seen people feeding ducks in the ponds. I haven't seen it along the bike paths, but I have a feeling that there are people who walk out on the bike paths and feed the geese right on the paths. Thus, many of the geese aren't particularly scared of people or bikes. |

over here dangers are ducks, geese, swans, pigeons seagulls and crows. every one of them except the crows are mostly a danger due to either being 1) suicidal or 2) too dumb to realize they will get run over and killed. crows on the other hand will attack you. been attacked twice in 2 years i've lived here, going for third year now let's hope it doesn't become a yearly tradition.
