The switchback only goes to the Trail Inn, correct?

Thatís correct and then there is another decent hill up to Main Street, and of course Main Street is also on a hill.

AusTexMex - Thanks for the info. I'll be coming thru there Monday June 3rd, and I'll be staying at the Donges Drive-in Motel in Meyerdale. Just looked too cool to pass up.

The switchbacks get you up to the train depot and Trail Inn from the GAP. There are bike racks available near the top of the switchbacks and by the train roundabout if you want to lock up and walk the stairs in to town. Helpful if you're bike is loaded down and you have been riding all day.
There are more bike racks at the Trail Inn. You can lock up there and stay in the bunkhouse or carry your camping gear up the ramps to the Trail Inn campground, which is actually very nice. Go through the back of campground and walk right in to town. Our house is near the top of the hill. Me, wife, and kids ride, walk, run the hill multiple times everyday when there. Usually not bike touring but frequently loaded with groceries, supplies, etc. We are used to it.
Where we live full time in Austin, there are lots of hills, too.
