Mr Petrolhead,
Cant help you with the specifics, but if you dont hear from someone who has used the same rims and can give reliable info, you may end up having to take your bike to a store whre they sell them, and explain your concerns, and they may let you or someone from the store mount 40s on your rims, so you can actuallysee the space available.

it really does come down to the rims.
I cant recall what Ive said to who, but my 2in supremes measure to 45mm on my rims, and I really dont think I could have known this without them being on my rims.

goodluck with a specific answer
oh, can you measure your rims, exterior width, and I can look again at mine, ive forgotten already the width. I put it in the forum recently but dont recall width.

I would like a pair of 1.6's, but will wait hopefully for a sale.

Hi djb,
I recall reading posts regarding your extensive experience and praise for these tires and it was very useful. Conversion of 2" = 50mm. It diesel;t appear that Schwalbe makes a 700 x 2"(50mm) tire, are yours 26": either the 42-559 (26 x 1.60) or 50-559 (26 x 2.00)?
Of course your tires may also be the previous model Supremes which came in different dimensions?
Trying on a pair in store doesn't seem to be in the cards as I'd never be able to pay retail store prices (clearing throat "Excuse me sir, may I mount your expensive tires on my bike rims?" ... an hour later ... "They appear to fit! I'll remove them and be on my way. Thanks a bunch!").

I have calipers and will try to post an actual rim exterior measurement tonight or tomorrow.
Nominally the rims have printed on them: Bontrager Camino series 6000 ETRTO: 622x18, ERO: 603.
I'd overlooked the issue of the tires fitting the rims (!)... my main concern was if the tires would be too wide for the frame/fork along with a set of fenders installed.

When I was doing my research a few months ago Bike24.com had them for about $32USD each. They charge an international shipping fee (and depending on Canada's laws maybe a customs fee?) but the shipping fee I think is fixed; if you or some friends place a larger order then the shipping expense is very reasonable. Looking over their website there were lots of items that sold for considerably less than USA retail pricing.

Of course, the tires may be available cheaper from other sources if you have time and patience.

Holy moly, we have people touring on unicycles & penny- farthings!?! Suddenly, I'm not nearly as cool as I thought I was. Kinda wimpy, in comparison, actually. 😁😉 My hat's off to you guys. 👍

if I could buy a PennyFarthing at a reasonable price, I would. They are pretty neat bikes.

Penny Farthing tires are reportedly difficult to find in Outer Mongolia.

that British guy who rode one around the world pretty much boggles the mind. He usually had a Pith helmet on for the full effect, "mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun, and ride p.f's around the world...."

So you're quoting CAD or USD? $100 USD = $135 CAD now. I've read a couple of threads about Canadians buying bike parts from DE/UK shops & yes, it's kinda confusing but apparently a lot of folks luck out w/o getting dinged for excess fees. If you ordered a pair of tires the shipping cost would be the same as for one, no? I've ordered Tubus racks from Germany & saved a fair amount. I'd give Bike24 etc a try, as you say at worst it wouldn't be more than buying from your local LBS's.

yes, that was in cad.
At a certain point as you say, it can end up being close to prices here, and in that case, I prefer to give my business to a local place.
It really depends on how much the difference is.

and the excess fees thing in my experience can be hit and miss frankly.
