In search of a fork
 

I'd like to replace the fork I currently have, and while I'm at it, update to a few new standards. What I'm looking for is:

• Carbon fiber, preferably ALL carbon (steering tube included)
• Relatively strong (no rack, but I'll have a light touring load)
• 1 1/8" steering tube (not tapered)
• ~400 mm crown-to-axle length
• Clearance for up to ~40 mm tires
• Boost spacing (110 mm hub width)
• Mounts for bottle cages
• Disc brake mount
• Thru-axle (12 or 15 mm, don't care)

It's hard to do a general search to see if this fork exists at all. Anyone know of one that matches the description? It's a combo of old and new standards, so I haven't been able to find one.

Alternatively, if there's a cromoly fork that checks all these boxes, I might go that direction.

Closest thing I see is the Soma fork designed for the Wolverine.

No water bottle mounts though and an aluminum steerer.

I hope you're not considering the through axle and 110mm spacing as new standards, and are depending on them being a "standard" for a long. This sort of stuff seems to be constantly changing now that we live in a profit driven corporate world. I'm sure it'll be a 1 1/2" headtube, 20mm axle, and 125mm spacing in a few years.

I think the best bet for finding what you want will be to start with a search for all carbon forks with a 400mm axle to crown length. Then spend hours digging and wading through until you find the one that suits your preferences best.

I know of the Niner Boost RDO MTB fork. I'm not sure about axle to crown distance but you could give Niner a call @ 877-646-3792. I think this fork is on the list noted above.

Edit: Axle to crown is 400 on the Niner fork.

Do not forget fork rake or offset, that is associated with handling.

And it is probably simpler to order a new fork crown headset race when you order the fork, if you find one.

But i am worried that the steering tube isn't what you want.

It's more "I'm replacing it anyway, I might as well update it as well."

A lot of the new standards I'd like to have, they appear to come with few drawbacks, at least from a touring perspective. Thru-axles and boost spacing, from what I understand, make your wheels stronger with minimal weight penalty. Sounds like a good deal.

The old standards I'm keeping (like 1 1/8" steering tube instead of tapered) have to do with compatibility with my current bike.
