PNW tourer "John" - YOHB?

This thread is a total long shot (and I swear it isn't a "missed connection" personal ad).

Back in September '20, I drove past two bike tourists talking at the end of my dead-end street in the far east 'burbs of Cleveland, OH. Being that I'm not on a traditional bike route, I wondered if one or the other needed directions, so I stopped and asked. The eastbounder appeared to be fine, but John, who was pointed westbound on a blue Kona Sutra with a full set of black & blue panniers, advised that he had overshot his westbound trip from Pennsylvania and wasn't going to make Cleveland before night & weather came on.

He was looking for a place to stealth camp, or a public campground, or someone with a backyard that would be okay with a tent being pitched. I couldn't think of any good options that he'd make before some forecasted storms, so I offered my backyard, being that he was about 100ft away from it, and he accepted.

We talked briefly about the election, covid, and his tour for about 20 minutes. I seem to recall that he was headed westbound toward home in the Pacific Northwest (can't remember if Oregon or Washington, sadly).

Since I had plans to attend to, I cut the conversation short and gave him my WiFi password and let him in the house for a second to refill water bottles before I left. When I got home later (okay, rather late) it was raining and I figured he was tucked away in his tent. By the time I woke up the next morning, he had already broken camp and hit the road.

I've just been wondering if John is still on his tour, or if he made it home safely, and how the rest of the ride went. Since we never exchanged contact info, this is really the only way I know to ask if the tour was a success. After all, the internet has proven time and again that the world can be a small place. Maybe you know him, or are him!

Can't help you with John but am wondering about LHT-mounted Eddie who was camped in a nearby county park for a couple of nights last year on his way to San Diego from New York. Yes, going way south and then west is somewhat the long way but he had a good attitude and I hope he made it. This fellow was actually delivering pizzas locally to make a few bucks and he was planning to do that along his route to California.

That's certainly an interesting backstory. Wonder what he's up to, too.

Perhaps we do need a "YOHB" subforum!
