Hi all,

I posted this in the commuting forum, but I think most of the riders there aren't distance riders, really.

I just recently moved to Santa Rosa, CA from NY, and I have a few friends down in San Fran who I'd like to visit every so often.

I've taken Route 1 down there into Sausalito and over the GG bridge, but I had difficulties on the descents because the coastal mist wet my glasses something fierce, and I'd rather not repeat the ride until I get lasix or contact lenses. Also, although beautiful, the road was pretty bike-unfriendly in some ways: no shoulder, cars buzzing right next to me, crazy-straw descents, etcetera...

Route 1 is also just way out of the way when I want to head directly down there, and I would at least like to know the most direct straight shot instead of knowing just the scenic route, only as a matter of pure utilitarian function (yea, I know this is the touring forum).

The only direct route seems to be the 101, which doesn't allow cyclists. I've seen that I can take Lakeville down to the 37, but I'm unsure if they allow bikes on the 37 for that stretch, and I just can't figure the whole route out or even if a suitable one exists. My map of Marin county doesn't seem to show many options, but I'm no veteran of this area, so I don't know the trails or anything like that.

Suggestions?
Thanks!
