... bicycle traffic on the bridge from Incheon Airport to mainland is prohibited... (Later on we met a South African bike tourer who did not know this information and it proved to be to his benefit. He assembled his bike at the airport, put bike box into the storage at the airport and pedaled out. When he reached the bridge there was a sign directing him away from the bridge to a small ferry that safely took him across to the mainland.)
...
...
.
One offside option is to make the very short ride to Chinatown which is just next to Wolmido, look around, maybe grab a good Chinese bite and take a taxi from there to the bike path start. This, of course, is only really an option with folding bikes. Some might ask, But why bother?, and I would tend to agree.
I'll be getting on the AREX instead next week.

Thanks for the report and great pictures! I have had an interest in South Korea for a while now, and it's nice to see their support for cycling. That doesn't seem to make the typical news. I hope to visit some day, even if with just a tour group. This whets my appetite.

An option for those completing the Four Rivers bike path in Busan and looking to continue their tour of the ROK onto Japan is the direct ferries out of Busan to, for example, Fukuoka across the Korea Strait in Kyushu or as far as Osaka. They are not exactly cheap, but it beats packing the bike for air travel and it's a more novel form of international travel.

Folding bikes on AREX train out of Incheon airport
There you go, my folder on the AREX train out of Incheon today Thursday. Folders, sans cover, naked even, are allowed on it everyday.

Great report.
Does the trail go through interesting towns and right by various sights? Or do you have to detour onto regular roads?
Is it easy to find quiet road routes (not bike trails) there if desired?

Yes and no. There were many towns we went through with temples or museums or parks or sunday farm markets and the trail goes on tertiary roads that are quiet
but there were some towns with crazy traffic and pollution where we diverted to because were looking for sunscreen haha
