PSA: Ortlieb panniers 25% off REI

REI has all Ortlieb panniers and other bike bags 25% off of list price during their Labor Day sale.

(I finally bought my first pair of Ortlieb panniers about 4 weeks ago from REI at full price. C'est la life. I got as far as fitting them to my bike's rack and verified they will work, but haven't done anything more. I am very impressed with the attachment system.)

Wonder if I can talk She Who Must Be Obeyed into ... Or maybe... Nah, probably not.

It's kind of looking at a Buycycling magazine, where you see the newest, latest, greatest, (most expensive), and think, "Wow, if I got one of those I'd be really fast!" Except I look at Ortliebs and think, "Wow, I could get a pair of those, and one of those, and take off on a long tour through [fill in the blank]." And then see the three pairs lying around the house, and know I'm not riding on a long tour. This year.

Maybe I can get some on sale now and start planning for next year?

That's exacty how I fell into the rabbit hole earlier this year. An outdoor gear online store must have tracked me because I received an email informing me that the Ortlieb Bike Packer panniers I had browsed were on sale. I told myself, what the heck, I can start acquiring stuff on sale and slowly get ready for next year. Then a bunch of other stuff also went on sale and I realized at one point that I'd crossed a line of no return. My plan became : I'd better get somewhere this year for any of this to make sense. Now I'm scrambling to finalize everything before autumn weather sets in. A few more full dress rehearsals to get in shape then I should be off for a week or a bit more.
