Vorarlberg, Austria: a road to Lech?

Hi there.

Have any of you cycled from Stuben through Lech to Warth in Vorarlberg, Austria?

(or the opposite direction, it doesn't matter)

What is the traffic on this road in summer? The road looks narrow, it goes through galleries and tunnels, so I don't know if I should take more sensitive people there?

Thanks!

S.

I haven't biked that particular route, although I have biked and driven similar nearby passes in that area. Have you checked it out on Google Maps using the bicycling overlay? Looks to me from Google like there are bike paths of some sort a good bit of the way, including around the tunnel areas (this has been my experience biking there with regard to tunnels, usually there's a bike-accessible alternative).

I'm afraid that there is a big mistake by Google in showing any kind of cycling infrastructure there :) If you check this road in Google Street View, you see galleries (half open tunnels) and regular tunnels, which protect the road before snow and rocks. It is not possible to build a bicycle path on it and the tunnel is too narrow to fit a bicycle path in it.

And now the question is whether Lech is a town located far enough off the beaten path and there will be little traffic, or whether Lech is such an attractive place, there will be a lot of traffic and we will have angry vacationers on the back :)

I will have three quite sensitive people in my group and I would prefer not to expose them to unnecessary stress.

Thanks :)
