Recommendations for Tour Groups

We are looking for tour group rides in the Western US. Originally, we had booked and paid for a Columbia River Tour with Santana Adventures, but the cruise line went bankrupt.

We’ve found Lizard Tours and Escape Adventures. Has anyone used them?

Any other recommended tour companies?

TIA.

Cheers, Mike

About 10 years ago I was part of a group that hired Escape Adventures to provide support for our group. In this case we did not sign up for one of their regularly scheduled trips, instead we had our own group of 10 people and we had taken care of getting our own permits and route. Thus we basically hired them to do what they normally do, but for a private group.

Escape Adventures worked out really well for us. Our guide had guided trips at that location before, was familiar with the location. Location was White Rim. Tour groups come and go, but if Escape Adventures are still around 10 years after our trip, I would be happy to use them.

The guide can make or break a trip, same with being in a good group of participants. We had a great guide. In our case, our group of participants were all from the same community, so that helped since most of us knew each other before the trip.

Number of days? Average daily mileage. Camping? Desired terrain?

5( +/-) days. 40-75 miles. Prefer not to camp. Flat (any hill steep enough to coast down is too steep to ride up....LOL), or no more than 4-5,000'/day. Tandem friendly.

Consider Adventure Cycling. I used Adventure Cycling for two trips, one self supported (we hauled our own luggage) and one van supported (they hauled our luggage in a van trailer), both were camping. I have never used them for a trip where you sleep indoors, but they do offer such trips.

A bit over a decade ago I use REI Travel for two Europe trips, guided, sleeping indoors. I have not used them for USA trips but they offer them. The Europe trips I did, they provided the bikes, I do not know what they do for trips in USA.

When I did the REI trips, I used an REI credit card to get the extra 5 percent kickback on my credit card.
