Boston to Cape Cod Route
Greetings all! I am trying to map a ride from Boston to the Cape and have heard that there is a route already developed called something like the Claire-Saltonstall Bikeway but i cannot find a copy of the map. Can anyone provide me any insight on where i can get this map, or another good route?
Thanks for the help..... |

Thanks for forwarding along the link. I meant to say a wanted a hard copy--something more durable and waterproof than a copy printed from the computer. Anyone have any ideas where i can find a hardcopy of the map? Thanks..

At your lbs you should be able to purchase the Rubel maps for Eastern MA and Cape Cod. Should be pretty easy to mark the path with a hi-liter. I'm pretty sure the Eastern MA map comes in the water-resistant option, I think the price is $12.99.
Also, the MS society "Great Mass Getaway" goes from Quincy to P-town, and their route is clearly marked on the pavement all the way, you could use them as ride markers if you wnated. You might be able to find the route (and a description of their mark) printed on their website. Google "Great Mass Getaway" hope that helps.... |
I did this ride in August and followed the Claire Saltonstall route.
Definitely hillier than I was expecting! Leaving Boston the route is not well-marked, but once you're on-Cape, expect to spot the signs (Green -> marked Bike Route 1). |
I have the waterproof version of the Rubel "Eastern Massachusetts" bike map.
It was $11.95. You can buy it on line. www.bikemaps.com As well as bike shops. My map has the Saltonstall bikeway marked on the map very nicely. My map shows it clearly from Jamaica pond (at the south end of a bike path) all the way to the Cape Cod canal. I have done parts of it and have seen some of the signs. Where I was riding the signs were pretty good, but you do need the map. By looking at my map it seems as if the bikeway continues on the other side of the canal, but my map ends there. It says "Continues on "Cape Cod and North Shore" maps by Rubel Bike Maps". I use my map a lot, and it is in fact "waterproof". There is a cheaper not waterproof version too. Don't bother with it. There are lots of detail on this map for cyclists. Even the roads are rated as to how "bike friendly" they are. It has B&B's , bike shops, ice cream shops, parks, etc. |
