Touring dilemma; what would you do?

Ok, not a very big problem, but maybe you guys can give it a thought

Imagine you fly to New Zealand to do a 6 months tour, but the only thing you have to choose is the bike?

cheers

I enjoy mountain biking just like those MB riders. If there is going to be a lot of trail involved, I will bring my Mountain bike along only. forget about those trailer, it dont work well in rugged terrain. Are you going to the Queen Charlotte Track?

I've done two tours on my MTB, although I've not yet been to New Zealand (next year perhaps?). I like them for their versatility. I don't think I'd have been able to do the Border Ranges National Park last year without it.

Hey Toolfreak. I toured this summer with a FS MTB. I was on a dirt trail the whole time however. I used panniers instead of a Bob, which worked great. Axiom makes a great rear rack that is compatible with full suspention. When I first received the rack a was a little sketched out, about weather or not it was beafy enough, but just before I left on my trip I ran into a crazy French Canadian who was using the rack and he had it way over loaded, and he had come a long ways with it and said that he had had no problems with it. I never came close to the sugested max load which was 55 pounds, probably only around 40 pounds and it handeld great. Go with the MTB then you will be able to go and ride all the local trails you are bound to hear about, you'll be awfull sorry when some local Asie chick is inviting you to go ride some of the local trails with her and your stuck with youre touring bike. Hear is another reason if the last one wasn't good enough, we hit a few sections on our trip where we had to ride a few KM on a sandy trail which if you do any touring off road in AUS you are bound to hit, and the poor people on touring bikes that we passed in those sandy sections with skiny tires were swearing up a storm. If your not stoked on paniers go with the FS XC MTB and a BOB and it will be even easier to unload your gear and go charge the local trails with the people you meet. Happy Trails!

Thanks!

I run into a firm, who does cycle trips around the world, not that i`m interested in organised rides, but these guys do cycletransportation also.
I hope to visit the shop this weekend and ask some advice about cycles and planes.

cheers
