Unable to judge road grade by eye

After a couple of days on the road, I find what looks like a level grade is actually an uphill, or appears as a down grade. A few times I had to make a U-turn and roll down the road to convince myself I wasn't actually getting weaker or dragging a brake. No it wasn't the wind, which effect is easy to detect. The reverse has also happened: an actual downgrade has appeared as an incline.

Anyone experience this?

Sure I've been there too. It's the third most visited site in Canada. Check out the video at https://travelvideo.tv/videos/newbrun...hillvideo.html

The easy part is beleving, the hard part is staying upright as your bicycle is pulled backwards uphill.
