Brooks bags any opinions?

Anyone try the new Glenbrook or Millbrook bags from Brooks. I was thinking of one for my Waterford, I love the old school look. No touring more like day trips. Thanks

Wow, lots of looks but no replies. I guess that means we ride on Brooks but don't carry anything in them. Thanks anyhow.

Your post was the first I've heard of them. They do look cool, but I haven't seen them in the flesh. The only thing I would worry about is the bag loops supportimng the weight?

I'm thinking about the same (Millbrook) for my just-out-of-the-box B17 (after I see how it feels on the bike). The bag and saddle combo make for a great look, but it's tough justifying $90 for a bag...

For me a good leather Saddle is a necessity, $125 for a seat bag is not. For true retro stylin' try burrito wrapping your tools and spares in a $5 peice of oiled canvas or waxed chamois. wrap and tie with a 3' long leather shoe lace then strap it onto the saddle rails with a leather toe strap. For extra style points, the older this stuff looks the better.

Looks cool as hell on a classic styled roadbike, all for about $10
You can use that $115 you saved to buy us all a pint

When I lived in the UK (moved to USA in 1983), I had a Carradice bag for my Claud Butler. The bag is somewhere in the UK, but I still have the B17 Champion Narrow from which it used to hang. Carradice make great bags which last a lifetime.

I agree $90 is a lot of money for a bag. It is comparable to Carradice and Giles Berthoud though. Actually it's cheaper than both of them. Does anyone know where you can get a good canvas saddle bag? Nylon works well but looks cheap. I'm putting it on my retro Waterford bike and really want a canvas or leather bag.

A friend of "rolls his own":

https://www.pbase.com/flippinghades/bike_bags_saddlebag1
https://www.pbase.com/flippinghades/b...1_construction

I'm leaning toward something like that for cost/size. (a friend of mine is a seamstress & fabric's cheap)

Very nice looking bags. Let us know if you get a set.

Rivendell (https://www.rivendellbicycles.com/webalog/), Peter White (www.peterwhitecycles.com) and Wallingford (www.wallbike.com) all offer wide range of canvas saddle bags. The Carradice bags are classic looking, the Rivendell Baggins bags are just as good looking and have thicker leather in the straps, etc.

Carradice make the classic bag and have done for many years. The saddle bags range in size from the "Longflap" which can carry enough for a weeks none-camping tour right down to the "Barley" which can accommodate tools, waterproof, tube, flask and all you need for day rides. These bags are made from stout cotton canvas duck and are waterproof and hardwearing. The older they get the better they look and they last over 30 years. How can you do better?

The Brooks bags look overpriced and under capacity to me.

Actually the large bag isn't all that small, it is expensive though. Last year on their site they said that there were canvas bags in the making. This year all they say is the leather/vinyl is the only bag. Like I said nylon works very well it just looks cheesy. Canvas and leather look very classic IMO.

I'd have to add Frost River (www.frostriver.com/bike_bags/bikebags_menu.html ) to that list. Very close to the Rivendell bags (same maker???)

The Rivendell/Baggins seat bags have thicker leather straps, thicker canvas, and they are designed to fit on a modern bike with steeper seat tubes and more saddle setback. Better looking than the Carradice and they look just as durable. And yes, I own a Carradice Nelson Longflap and a Rivendell "Little Joe" bag.

The bike in the drawing appears to be a Rivendell. The bags appear to be identical to the Rivendells

Those are very nice looking bags. About the same price as Carradice though for their size. I like the tan color.

Anyone try one of the Duluth made Baggins bags from Rivendell yet? They have the pics up on the site and they look great.
