Contribute at least one piece of information that you would tell yourself if you were just starting to bike tour. We are making this thread so that the new people have a place to go to get a good base of information... this will cut down on some of the same equipment questiions being asked over and over again....

Nice idea, but I fear it will become a jumbled mess of conflicting opinions serving to confuse the unwary as opposed to enlightening them.
