VENTURA TOURING TIME....help!!
Hello all!
Hows it going today? Well, i just bought a 2003 Jamis Ventura and I am going to go do my first bike tour ever!!!! Auburn NY to NY NY for my brothers graduation!!!! The problem is, I dont think the Ritchey Rims will carry me through. Could someone give me some advice on how to make this beast tour worthy on the cheap?? Maybe some recommendations on inexpensive sturdy rims, or tires?? Any thoughts on the bike in general would be awesome too!!! Please, if you have any thoughts, let me know... I would really really appreciate it!!! Also, is wearing a backpack will touring really that bad?
Thank you all soooo much for your help!!! The forums are outstanding by the way... It would be cool if there were a place where all the members could keep their trips logged, and then we could calculate how many miles the members have collectively ridden!!!!
Thanks again... LOTSOLOVELYLOVE from beautiful Prince Edward Island Canada,

I have read a few things about people calling ritchey stuff garbage. And in the reviews for the bike, a couple people were breaking their spokes. For some reason I assume, with no actual experience of course, that a rim designed for a road bike is not going to last on a tour. Any thoughts?
