bike quiz

Name 10 touring bikes, rideable "off the rack" (not frame-to-build-up) that cost $500 to $1500 (USA), that use Reynolds tubing.

Go.

p.s. I don't have the answer. I'm looking for that bike.

Not sure of the price of the Bianchi Volpe, but it's worth a look. I don't think the Trek, Bianchi or the Novara use Reynolds. Is chromoly steel ok? If you really want Reynolds tubing, I'd look for a used touring bike on ebay or Craiglist.

Jamis Aurora.

Jamis is pretty heavy on Reynolds tubing.

Just curious - why are you so set on the Reynolds brand? Tru Temper, Columbus, Dedacciai (sp?) and others all make fine steel tubing as well.

Oh, probably sentimental reasons. But, mostly, likely, paranoia. I usually don't confess weaknesses over the internet, but, I am a tad paranoid that I'll end up with a non-steel bike. I was thinking that if I see Reynolds, I know I'm getting steel. I love steel. "I'd rather ride steel than wear gold or platinum." (I have a bike with Columbus. I know Tru Temper is steel.) Maybe I should have said the word "steel" instead of Reynolds. But, Reynolds is simply kinda "dreamy", in that steel-sort-of-way.

And, what if, there was such a bike, with Shimano XTR derailler and Avid brakes, etc., all put on a lugged frame with reynolds tubing, for under $1000 USA, and I didn't know it and bought something else?

My list includes:
Trek 520
Jamis Aurora
Bianchi Volpe

If you're worried about not getting your money's worth out of a new bike... and that's not the least bit paranoid, do yourself a favor and go to REI. Nobody supports their products like REI.
