Shimano 105 / Mavic A719 = smart buy?

I leave on tour at the end of the month and I am in the process of doing some upgrades. Right now, I have 28 spoke wheels and want to upgrade to 36 hole. I have read mixed reviews, but at this moment in time I want to know what people think of this set:

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...slisearch=true

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...slisearch=true

$119 for the rear and $104 for the front. If there is a better choice for about the same price let me know. I plan on buying tomorrow.

Plus, what are your opinions? Will they hold up to my 165 pound body with 40 pounds of gear? Or will I be popping spokes during my 3000 mile ride?

Thanks...... AGAIN.

36 spoked anything is probably going to be better than 28, and will stay "true-enough" longer if you do break a spoke.

Thanks for the heads-up on the coupon code ending today. I went ahead and ordered them... probably would have missed that if it weren't for this forum...

hah.

Awesome... just a heads up for anyone using performance today, I just got double billed. I ordered over the phone (hate doing it online with my 56k speed) and just checked my bank account... sure enough I have been billed 257.48 twice. Nice... now I am in the negative and they won't be open until monday.

Your first order should go through if you had the funds to cover it, wouldn't it?

Maybe you can get them to honor the coupon, as it was their fault anyway, if it doesn't.

I used a debit card and I did have the funds to cover it... but after they charged the card three times for $257, I didn't. Yes, they charged it AGAIN for a third time.

Perhaps I am the only one, but this is the first and last time I will ever order from them. They are saying "my bank keeps saying the address I am giving them is incorrect", which is crap. I talked to my bank and they said the charges are going through fine, and that performance just keeps charging. So now I have to go in to the bank and file a dispute.

And performance is the worst customer service I have ever talked to. When I told the lady that I was charged again, for a third time, she said, "Well sir, someone must have stole your debit card or you must have ordered two more times and forgot about it. There is nothing I can do about it."

And to top it off, they never actually filled the order(s)... they said "The orders are on hold because your address does not match. Our accounting dept. will have to call your bank when they get back in on Wednesday... (and then she actually said this)... so I guess you will learn to be frugal for the next few days."

Wow. Stay away.

I found that the A719 rim is very sturdy...I think that you made a very good choice. I would recommend putting some miles on them and then having them retensioned and trued. My experience with performance and nashbar wheels is that the tend to not be stress-relieved and tensioned. They are a very good deal, you just have to touch up after a few miles.

Talk to a supervisor.

There's no reason to take that kind of crap.

Your exchange may very well have been recorded too.

You should definitely move up the food chain on this one.
