Best Time of Year for Transamerica
Looking into doing the Transamerica East to West. What is the best time of year to start? Is September too late?
Also, Are many people using GPS these days? Is it recommended or am I still fine with a map and compass? Any GPS model suggestions?

September is probably too late, unless you're going for complete speed.
You're gonna have to worry about passes.
I think the ideal time to leave is the moment the passes open.
