Out of curiosity, why did you go with a Hone crankset instead of the LX trekking crankset that Shimano offers?

Personally, I would have gone with a Sugino XD600 triple. The gearing is real world and it has 5 arm 110 BCD chainrings. The 4 arm Deore in 46 or 48 aren't readilly available. But, it's his bike. Everything sounds great. I hope the build comes out good. Post some pics.

I have had no problems finding replacement rings for my LX trekking crankset. Both of the LBS I go to carry them, although they are not always Shimano.

Are you aware about the noise produced from those Chris King hubs? It's absolutely impossible to ignore although some people actually like it. Myself, I prefer my bike to run quiet.

It was more of an aesthetic thing. They look sweet :D

I thought about that. I should probably ride a bike with them to see if it will be too annoying.

Do Hope rear hubs make as much noise?

Another reason I chose that crankset is because it's tough enough to use on a freeride mtn bike. I may be switching some of these parts over in the future.

I have Hope XC hubs which are louder than XTs, but not annoyingly so. The only time I really notice the noise is when I have been riding the XTs for a while and then switch to the Hopes. After a day or two I don't notice the noise anymore.

Looks like it will be a great bike.

I have a bike with a noisy rear hub and it drives me bonkers. I can't hear myself think when I coast. Its on a cannondale road bike I commute on the highway with and don't coast a ton so I can live with it. On a touring bike I would lose my mind - actually no that's not true I'd just get it replaced ASAP.

On a completely different note enjoy the LHT when you get her on the road. With all the chris king bits it will certainly have some bling factor!

Robert_in_ca 02-04-07 02:12 PM

Yeah, I've decided against the King hubs, probably get a Hope Pro 2 rear hub.
