Wilmington-San Pedro-Long Beach area
Does anyone know this area well enough to give good routings through it?
I have ridden it, and found the Wilmington area to be somewhat less than ... well, it was simply a nightmare. (If it hadn't been so dangerous, it would have been entertaining -- like some horror show.)
Another cyclist who took the same road I did over the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula (while I'm at it here, is that one of the better routes through that area?), ended up riding along the ocean in Long Beach (and the ride he had getting there, from the end of the Palos Verdes Peninsula road, was also good). He said it was a good route, largely through quieter residential areas, but I didn't get the details.
Also, I found much of the ride down the urban Southern California coast to be fine -- there were bike paths along the beaches. But once in a while (like Wilmington), it was terrible.
Are there any other tricks or routes for staying on the less dangerous, more scenic paths and roads?
