Reality vs. (google earth)/map estimate
Anyone want to advise me on how much time it would take to do this route or something close to it through Europe? A rough estimate from google earth is about 8000 km. Doable in 5 or 5.5 months? I'm not tied to it at all, just playing with ideas. Any opinions are welcome. And thanks. Map:

8,000 km in 5 months should be easily doable -- depending on how long you want to spend visiting cities en route. Of course, it all depends on how you pace yourself and how much distance you can reasonably cover day after day. Ever done long-ish routes like this before?

No, not a route that long. The part through Europe is the start of 1.5 or 2-year trip. I just want to make sure I’m not cutting myself short on time making it to Istanbul where I will fly out to India. I want/need to meet up with my parents (beginning of Nov. ’07) while they are visiting India. They are bringing a change of tires and other supplies. |
When you are in Ireland make sure you check out the cliffs of moher, they are amazing. Its a little hard to tell from the map, but it looks like you may be skipping them. The rock of Cashel is pretty cool too, as is Cashel itself, but its a little south of your route.

I see your route does run along some established long distance routes such as the Rhine River and also the Danube from Vienna to the Black Sea. That's a good idea.
Let me know when you're gonna pass through Frankfurt. I have a comfy sofa. Are you familiar with the Warm Showers List? http://www.warmshowers.org/user/2404 |

I might just take you up on it. The count down is at 30 days before I leave. I can barely contain myself. :D |
I am planning on doing a similar tour, beginning may 22nd. I've budgeted 5 months to roll this route. I think it should be easily manageable with some stops to explore. http://bp3.blogger.com/_RKE4dWcZ5bU/...00/tripmap.jpg

If you need somewhere to have a shower or a bed in the north of england it looks like you are coming close to me. I live in Preston, Lancashire and as I have done several european tours I may be able to offer some assistance. PM or email if you wish george |
