Jandd front racks
 

Has anyone used one of the Jandd front racks? Comments?
Jandd sells 2 different racks. One in a traditional low rider with the loop over the tire and another which includes a small rack on top which allows you to load high or low. They look good on paper.
Prices are higher than Delta products but much better than Tubus and such. Link at

I've got about 6000 miles on the low rider type. No problems in usage, but the loop has a slight offset to it.
I just bought the one with the rack plate on top for trail/gravel/dirt usage.
It has 2 mounting positions for the panniers - high or low. The higher mount is usefull when riding trails.
It also weighs a lot more than the low rider rack, for pavement I'd stick with the low rider.

I looked at both the Jandd front rack models at my LBS before deciding on the low rack. Both models seemed very well made and sturdy. I chose the low because it's lighter and it seemed like it will flex a bit more to fit outside of my wide fork tubes. I have yet to mount my front rack on my touring bike (waiting on the right size clamps), but compared to my Tubus Cargo rear rack, it seems just as well made.

I have the Extreme Front Rack and like it because of the top shelf. I don't like to have a handle bar bag when touring so I mount my handle bar bag on the top of the front rack. It is a little heavy and is a little expensive but it works well for me for touring. I have seen in other forums issues with Jandd racks not mounting centered but mine is ok. The only mounting problems that I had on my Cannondale T2000 was to get it level which I fixed by bending the bottom mounting arms and getting it high enough to clear my fenders which I fixed by cutting the mounting arms and drilling new holes to mount to the forks with. This is a time consumming task as you adjust a little, put it on, take it off and then adjust some more. It certainly does come out of the box fit onto the bike without a little mechanical adjustment. Over all I really like the rack but it was quite a chore to get it to fit my bike but once you have it fitted it works well.

I use the extreme front rack on a 700c LHT. The only problem was finding some kind of spacers to fit between the rack and the upper eyeletsThe lower portion fit just fine. I'm not sure, it's possible the rack is meant to fit both 26" and 700C forks (which may account for the space on my 700c fork).

I expect to mount bags low in general but I like the idea of the top shelf for a small lightweight bag to carry some items I want to have handy.
I saw some comments earlier about the alighnment but I don't see that as a problem I cannot fix. Also, I am sure I can overcome any fit problem with frame and fenders. The only comment I saw elsewhere that might concern me was that some people apparently had problems with the rack hitting the bike frame when turned sharply. I suspect that problem was due to the rack mounted too close to the head tube.
Note....I saw one approach at http://www.phred.org/~alex/pictures/...d-triangle.jpg that added a small tab to the mid fork mounting point to allow a better connection to the mid fork mounting point..

I have the same problem with 26 inch wheels, spacers are required between the fork and rack.

Wow, where did you find such a good deal on the extreme? That was about what I paid for the Jandd Low rack!

They have some decent prices on other items also but they don't have very good coverage on many items. However, they had what I needed.
