Italy/Greece
Toying around with idea of cycling the east coast of Italy and then taking a ferry over to Greece and then on to Turkey as a part of my trip. Looking for some thoughts about this. Camping in Italy/Greece? Greece and daily costs...more or less expensive than other EU countries? Any other general thoughts? Thanks.

Years ago I biked down the Adriatic coast from Venice to Ancona, detouring westward to Bologna. It was not wonderful. If you go in the summer, you'll probably have lots of beach traffic. I was there in early November. While the weather was good for cycling, the beach towns were, not surprisingly, empty and boarded up. It's not very interesting riding, for the most part. For the best cycling experience in Italy, you need to ride in the non-flat parts of the country. Each of the non-flat parts of Italy I've bike in (Dolomites, Alps, Tuscany, interior of southern Italy, Amalfi Coast) are superior to all of the flat areas of Italy I've biked in (Po Valley, Adriatic coast, Riviera).
