Seems after trying two of the stems, no matter how much you tighten the adjustable part, the stem has movement in it. Design fault or bad batch who knows. Left me with a sore wrist, and back with my original stem....

IMO, adjustable stems are useful for figuring out what stem height/angle works best for you, so you can then get the proper fixed stem.

I know two guys who got adjustable stems at different times. Both were returned in a few days. In both cases, the stems woudn't hold a position.
Chipcom has a good explaination of why they even sell these things. They should market them as such.

Some of them do work well and hold adjustment. My neighbor has rode with one on his Giant road bike for years, and he's ~220 pounds.

But, I agree, mostly for a learning tool - always better off rigid stem.

The Pro-logic stem that comes with the Safaries seems to work fine.

I got about 5 Kalloy adjustable stems that work fine. Not as stiff as a fixed stem, but holds their adjustment. Great for someone with back issues. One is on my regular commuter. Never had a problem with it. I ride this bike 6 out of 7 days a week.

I have and adjustable quill stem (Radical) that has kept its adjustment for a year. My son's adjustable quill stem on his Giant kept losing its adjustment until I put loctite on the bolt - it has now stayed put for years.
