Fuji Touring spokes issue rectified?

Hi all,

I understand this question has been asked previously but i don't think anyone's been able to offer a solid answer. I bought a Fuji Touring earlier this year (yes the beautiful bronze/chocolate coloured one that many of you hate with a passion) and it's been going fantastically. I understand that there were some serious spoke issues with older models but I have heard rumours that this problem has been rectified, can anyone confirm this or has anyone who has a later model Fuji had/not had any problems with broken spokes?

oooooh, this brings up bad flashabcks of a tour with my dad 2 years ago - he broke COUNTLESS driveside spokes on a Fuji that he bought for the trip, so it was new. Had the wheel rebuilt at a good bike shop 1/2 way - no better - the spokes used were just pure sht!

What year do you have? I have an '05, and I had spoke breakage problems. I replaced my rear wheel and haven't had any trouble since.

I also have an '05 and had the same spoke problems. I think I popped almost 9 spokes on a 1,700 mile tour. I replaced the rear wheel, but now I'm debating rebuilding it with different spokes.

I broke 20 spokes on my cross country tour 2 years ago. After I got back Fuji paid for my LBS to rebuilt the wheel (a great credit to their customer service), and I haven't had any problems since.

From what I heard though, it wasnlt to do with the type of spokes they used - it was a quality issue with a particular large batch they received form a manufacturer......well that's what I was told anyway

There was a big problem with substandard spokesin 04/05, and many wheel builders had problems. I don't think it is something that you should worry about on a current model bike. I work in a shop that sells Fuji, and we have had no issues in the last 2 years.

The 05's have crap wheels. I rebuilt both of mine before my tour last year and had zero problems; while a friend riding the same rig with factory wheels was breaking an average of 3 spokes a week. If you have an older model, rebuild the wheels or buy new ones. Outside of that they're good, reliable bikes.

I had problems with my '05 wheel too -- though partly due to some damage that I inadvertently inflicted. I got new wheels and all the problems vanished. The bike is otherwise quite lovely and a comfy ride.

I have to give Fuji a lot of credit....they have handled the whole bad wheel years of 04-05 very well. The new bikes have better made wheels and Dealers handled every problem I've heard about by fixing the wheel...for FREE.

Very good reasons to ride Fuji!

I also had the spoke problems with my Fuji, had the wheel sent in and they hand rebuilt it and have no problems after that. Thumbs up for standing behind there product.

I broke 6 spokes in 1,000 miles on my '05 Fuji.

I threw a fit at Performance Bike, where I bought it, and they rebuilt BOTH wheels free. Broken only 1 since.
