No, you absolutely can't do this unless you have a Trek 520, Schwalbees, expensive rack and panniers, etc. Not possible.

Hell, have fun anyway!

People have ridden around the world on less... it really depends on how tough you are. If you're under 30 and already ride your bike everywhere, you'll be ok. If you haven't been on bike much lately, well, failure is likely.

Money is the real key to touring light. If you can afford to get a room after a couple of days of rain and dry out, life on the road isn't that bad. But mix lightweight, crappy gear and no or little money-- it sucks.

I'd really think about how you'll deal with bad weather. Got a good tent? how waterproof are your bags? got enough warm clothes/raingear? I'm not saying you really need to spend money a top shelf gear, but just have a plan. Maybe stay South in Spain and Italy? Poland/Germany/UK in Oct. = a lot of rain and cold.

So, have you got any in friends in Europe yet? If you can find a couple places to hole up, it really helps. I've rode in drving rain for 3 days with darn near zero sleep... but my mom's house was the end of the line. Home cooking drives a rider on like little else. Except a cute girl's apartment! If you don't have a goal, it's tough go on when things go crossways...and they will. A couple of safe houses will make all the difference.

Good luck and have fun!

well, i am under 30, and ride everywhere. i dont have alot of money, but thats something i'm quite used to, especially when travelling. I have good equipment, tent, etc. my panniers will be homemeade, and will be waterproof. i have friends to stay with.
