Great price on Surly racks

I was just window shopping on ebay and found some new Surly racks on sale for $88 each plus $10 shipping.
There are currently 11 silver fronts, 11 siler rears, 10 black fronts and 10 black rears (I bought a black fron and rear). Seller seems legit at 5500+ sales at 100%. Do the search.
Good luck to anyone who was looking for a nice price on one of these.
No connection to seller - I'm in a whole different country. Just passing on a good sounding deal.:D

Their website is www.bikeisland.com. The racks are the same price there.

I've bought several items from them, been very helpful. Returns are easy! They have a real store in North Dallas.

No connection, just a happy customer.

Hey jcbryan, where in Oklahoma are you located? I'm in Norman.

Yeah but they only ship to USA. Shame, they would have made another sale today.

Why would these racks be worth more than twice a Jandd Expedition? I've had the Jandd for years, and it is as solid as they come, and looks like like the surly's "deck" is smaller, to boot.

dunno, I guess because its steel? All I know is I have one, and they're rock solid. I did get thorn to weld a couple of stays from the top shelf to the mudguard eyelet, though.

man, I was actually considering biking up to aebike tomorrow to order the front rack...I guess I'll continue waiting to buy my front rack, I hope that goes back down in price

Anyone know why alfredE doesn't sell the jandd extreme front rack, yet the sell other jandd products?

if aebike sells the Jannd products, they will eventually have them

you have to keep checking...they will be out 1 day and then be stocked the next...

also email cullen and ask..he's pretty good on returning emails in a timely manner

yikes!! I just checked ae for the surly racks and they DID go up!! they were 90 a couple of days ago...

for that kind of money I would get a tubus....I like surly and have a crosscheck(love it) but damn..I can get same stuff and better quality for less money...Surly, you are getting GREEDY!!

hutcro 10-12-07 07:24 PM

thanks for the advice, i will do!

Well, they _were_ at this price for a day or two. As I understand it, Surly got wind of it and spanked them for it. They've since reset the price back to the $136
I'm not sure why these are so significantly more expensive then, e.g., the Tubus line. I'm sure they're great racks, but ...

they were 92 for several months.

aebike used to sell the LHT for 286USD for 6 months or so when first came out.

what happens is a competitor who's happy to ask full msrp hears about somebody under pricing them, then they gripe to surly, then surly calls the noncompliant dealer and reminds them of the pricing agreement....

moral of story - surf a lot with credit card handy to get them deals.

I own all three of the racks in question - I took the Tubus cross country this summer. Surly Nice racks are very beefy especially the front it's rated I think at plus 80lbs nice finish - it's so beefy it's still on my work bench still new - so far I'm still using my Tara Tubus front. Blackburns and Jandd are in very different league - although very utilitarian - I have 1000's of miles on them as well.

I got the Surly nice racks when they first came out $90 bucks at QBP - OUCH! at $136 - for that price I'd be looking at Bruce Gordon and Nitto racks

fishigator 10-19-07 10:53 AM

yikes! i was just looking to grab a rear surly rack for my wife and saw yesterday that they are crazy expensive again. i have a front and a rear that i picked up from bikeisland over the summer for the price of what just one costs now. sheesh, guess it's going to have to be a tubus instead.

Lolly Pop 10-19-07 11:38 AM

I got the surly front cause of the shelf. It's awesome. I have the tubus cargo on the rear. Best of both worlds! :)
