Outlines of my first tour!
Next summer I will bike from Stockholm to Budapest. It’s my first tour and I welcome all kinds of tips. Especially considering equipment: I want to travel as light as possible, but I will camp my way through Europe.

I wish you luck on your journey Karl. I did my first European tour in 2001 travelling through Holland and Belgium over 3 weeks with 5 other cyclists from our local bicycle club here in Halifax , Nova Scotia, Canada.
I really loved the experiences I had and would very much like to do another tour of Europe.
If there is one thing I've learned from all my touring that I always take way too much gear that ends up exhausting me. The European hostels I found were like excellent middle range motels here except with a much better atmosphere. For that reason I may not do a camping trip the next time to Europe but do Bed & Breakfasts or Hostels instead.

I just cycled down the Central California coast. I did not find the load from my tent/sleeping bag to be too much. It was even fun sleeping under the redwoods. Getting your tent dry under the dew is a challenge.
Traveling with a group with the cost of European B and B's, it would be far easier. Plus who would miss such conveniences such as washer/dryers so your gear stays in tip top shape. Wet clothes could end a great tour.
Touring. What a great way to meet people and see the sights.To me it is the ultimate purpose of all the training cyclists endure.
On our tour we traveled nearly 400 miles and my friends' altimeter says we climbed over 16,000 feet.

Thanks for the inspiration! It’s tempting to use b&bs, but I will camp this first time and see how I like it. I’m also a budget traveller, even though things don’t exactly get more expensive than in Sweden, where I live.
